Social Capital and Community-Driven Development:
Join a Moderated Electronic Discussion

Social capital, based on trust, reciprocity, networks and collective action, is an important community asset, and takes time to develop. Yet it can be easily destroyed by focusing development efforts only on other htmlects of capital. For example, urban renewal carried out without community involvement can quickly move people from a dilapidated neighborhood into anew development, but may destroy social capital and create dependency on outsiders and lead to long-term unsustainability of built capital. Join a two-month moderated electronic discussion on social capital and community-driven development at .

You will find an introduction to the discussion and papers by our guest moderators, Dr. Cornelia Flora and Dr. Jan Flora, who have worked on issues of community-driven development, social capital and local entrepreneurship for many years in both Latin America and the USA.
